Situated on the verdant KwaZulu Natal South Coast, the 18-hole championship golf course at Selborne estate is one of the most picturesque in the country, and rated by Golf Digest magazine as one of South Africa’s Top 100 courses.
Its beauty has been compared to that of Augusta and the challenges that may be found here, have been the downfall of many a player during the Sunshine Tour.
Recently revamped, water features prominently on the majority of the holes, either by coming in to play, or as a scenic ocean-view backdrop to your efforts, adding lustre to a naturally picturesque environment.
The course lives up to its looks too. Designed by Denis Barker, one of the original proprietors of the estate, the challenge is on from the first tee onwards, providing a real contest for golfers of every ability.
The par-5 third is considered the signature hole and is described as “not for the faint-hearted’ by professional golfer, Dale Hayes. It winds through a thicket of trees, culminating in a green surrounded by water. Another challenge is the second, which has been likened to hitting into a funnel with natural bush on the right and “out of bounds” on the left.
The driving range is world-class and sits alongside Africa’s biggest putting green with a resident Pro always on hand to offer advice and guidance.
