Our Top Four Sultry Sundowners

So, it’s time to face the truth: summer is on its way out, and it’s almost time to make way for the oncoming winter chill. But, before we unpack the winter woollies, there are still a few more weeks to celebrate summer and the many sultry sundowners to enjoy, whether you’re relaxing at the beach, mingling on an inner city rooftop or enjoying the sounds of the bushveld.

Cranberry Margarita

Fresh, zesty and perfect for a late afternoon cool down.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
  • 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 cup tequila
  • 1/2 cup Cointreau
  • Ice cubes

Instructions:

Stir all ingredients together until blended, then serve over ice in sugar or salt-rimmed tumbler glasses. Garnish with fresh cranberries or a lime wedge if desired!

Gin, Strawberry Smash

Fruity and sophisticated, this gin-based cocktail will become a summer favourite.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 3 fresh strawberries (2 hulled and sliced, 1 reserved for garnish)
  • 80ml gin
  • 1 can soda water
  • Fresh mint sprig

Instructions:

In a tall glass, combine the sugar and a squeeze of juice from the lime wedge. Muddle with the back of a spoon to dissolve the sugar. Add the sliced strawberries and lightly muddle.

Fill the glass with ice and add the gin. Top with a splash of club soda and garnish with the last strawberry and a sprig of mint.

Watermelon Mojito

A refreshing twist on a classic, this consistent crowd pleaser is the perfect companion to watch the sunset with.

Ingredients:

  • 60ml silver rum
  • 60ml fresh watermelon juice
  • 30ml fresh lime juice
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 5 teaspoons of sugar
  • 30ml soda water

Instructions:

In a tumbler, muddle the mint leaves with the sugar until the sugar turns light green and only flecks of mint remain. Pour in the watermelon juice, fresh lime juice, and rum.  Fill the glass all the way to the top with ice and finish with club soda.

Non-Alcoholic Blueberry Maple Mojito

Sweet, tangy and super delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon good quality maple syrup
  • ⅓ cup blueberry juice
  • ½ cup club soda
  • Frozen blueberries, for garnish

Instructions:

Add the mint leaves to a glass (size depends on how much ice you want). Muddle well until the mint releases its flavour. Add the lime juice, maple syrup, blueberry juice and club soda to the glass and stir until all the ingredients are well combined.

Add ice and a handful of frozen blueberries for garnish. You can garnish with additional mint leaves if you’re feeling fancy!
