South Africa and Kenya have raked in numerous accolades at the World Travel Awards – Africa.
Starting in the air travel category, South African Airways was recognized as Africa’s leading airline., while Kenya Airways was named Africa’s Leading airline for Business Class. OR Tambo International Airport managed to beat Cape Town International, King Shaka International and Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta to be named the top airport in Africa.
As far as destinations are concerned, Cape Town walked away with two accolades, being named Africa’s leading destination overall as well as the top destination for Meetings and Conferences in Africa. Zanzibar was awarded for top Beach Destination, whilst the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya received recognition for Leading National Park, an accolade Kruger National Park was also nominated for.
In the Hotels category, South Africa was strongly represented, winning no less than 12 awards out of a total of 25. These included The Regent, Saxon Boutique Hotel, Villas and Spa, Sandton Sun, The Palazzo at Montecasino, Pepperclub Hotel & Spa, The Westin Cape Town, Sun City Resort, Legend Golf & Safari Resort.
Other notable accolades included Africa’s leading luxury Ttrain for the Blue Train and Africa’s leading Conservation Company for Shamwari Game Reserve.
Hailed as ‘The Oscars of the Travel Industry,’ the World Travel Awards celebrates its’ 20th anniversary this year and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel awards, an aims to celebrate those brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence.
