Cape Town features in Lonely Planet’s top 3 destinations

According to Lonely Planet, Cape Town is now officially one of the three best cities in the world to visit.

The list that was published in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014 released in October 2013, is headed by Paris and Trinidad. Cape Town, which placed third, is ahead of other global centres such as Zurich, Shanghai, Chicago and Auckland.

Cape Town was chosen for its newly acquired status as the world’s design capital. Lonely Planet went on to mention that Cape Town has received a deluge of awards in recent years, paying homage to its unrivaled natural beauty. This year the city is destined to blossom more as it takes the title of World Design Capital for 12 inspirational months.

The guide goes on to state that one should expect sculpture-lined green spaces, sustainable projects, and further recognition former industrial districts, now the stamping ground of trendy shoppers and gourmands.

The guide also lists the top countries to visit. Placed first is Brazil with Malawi as the only African country, coming in fifth.
